Zooey Deschanel Now Has Blonde Hair — See Video

It’s the holiday season, which means there’s at least one Christmas movie on TV at any given moment, and there’s a pretty decent chance that that Christmas movie is one of the most beloved and quotable holiday films of the 21st century, 2003’s Elf. In addition to all of the memorable comedic moments, it’s in Elf that we see Zooey Deschanel in a way we haven’t seen since: as a blonde. But the actor and singer, who it’s hard to picture without her signature dark brown hair and bangs, seems that she may be lightening up again after all these years.

On Tuesday, December 3, Deschanel posted a video to Instagram along with the caption, “She & Him Christmas Party starts tomorrow night in Philadelphia! 🎄 We can’t wait!” In the clip, she shares a preview of one of the songs she’ll be performing with She & Him bandmate M. Ward, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” As she adjusts the front-facing camera on her phone, we see that, while she’s sporting her usual style of past-the-shoulder hair and bangs, it’s not the brunette shade we know and love.

Instead, Deschanel’s hair looks nearly blonde. Although not as light as it was in Elf, the color is a caramel hue — arguably a “bronde” shade, if you will. The lights in the rehearsal space bounce off the not-quite-straight, not-quite-wavy style, emphasizing a seamless blend of medium-brown tones and golden blonde highlights. Deschanel has been seen with a slightly lighter shade of brown than usual in the last few months, but this video reveals she may be officially crossing the blonde threshold for the first time in more than 16 years.

So it seems Deschanel won’t just be home for Christmas, she may also be blonde for Christmas.
